Abstract

The objective of this research study was to determine the perception held by specialised care nursing professionals on the concept of “nursing prescription”.  In order to do so, a qualitative approach was employed by means of the Delphi technique, with the participation of 20 nursing professionals who embodied the expert group.  The study period spanned from december 2008 to february 2009 and it was conducted in a third level hospital of the Community of Madrid.  17 activities that were viewed as the expert group as nursing prescription were identified and grouped into three categories: independent prescription, collaborative prescription, protocol-based prescription.  The expert group considered that these activities may be developed by means of two nursing competence profiles: the administrative profile and the medical profile.
