Abstract

Pain and traumatism management in wound care is a very relevant issue occurring at the present time. The most common causes of traumatism and wound pain are the removal of dressings that adhere to the humid surface of the wound, the detachment of perilesional skin resulting from multiple applications and removals of adhesive dressings, scarations and maceration of the skin due to a poor management of the wound´s exudate. This study presents a bibliographic review of the papers published on the Mepilex® Border and Mepilex® Border Lite dressings, both made with Safetac® technology. The aim of the work is to determine how their use and assess their effectiveness in order to avoid the occurrence of the problems mentioned above. A review of clinical symptoms and scientific tests relating to the Mepilex® Border and Mepilex® Border Lite dressings, with Safetac® technology, clearly show that they can be safely used to prevent and minimise trauma and pain, and ultimately help improve the healing process in a wide variety of wound types and skin lesions.
