Abstract

The Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs, by means of the Spanish Agency of Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN), promoted the implementation of the so-called NAOS Strategy (Strategy for Nutrition, Physical Activity and Obesity Prevention), with the aims of raising the population’s awareness on how obesity negatively affects health and promoting any initiative that contributed to children and young people adopting healthy lifestyle habits by following a healthy diet and exercising regularly.  Based on this objective, we decided to advocate the development of healthy habits by working side by side with teachers at the American School of Valencia (ASV), an educational centre that is considered a pioneer for having a nurse on staff for over 12 years, with the purpose of preventing problems in adolescence or adulthood.  The experience shown in this article consisted of implementing the so-called “Fruit Day Programme”, which aims to stimulate fruit consumption during breakfast.
