Abstract
Over the past few years immigration has become a very important issue. Many immigrants arrive in the Andalusian community with no information on the functioning of the health care system, without the socioeconomic and work-related conditions needed to reach an appropriate health level, without documentation and, in addition, many of them come from very unequal cultures with the resulting consequences on health-illness matters. In this work a conceptual and theoretical approach to the culture and health of the immigrant population, as well as to the empirical and statistical aspects of their health situation is performed. At the same time, this work also aims to ascertain the Andalusian health care government’s response to this issue. The Andalusian community is launching a series of initiatives such as the 3rd Andalusian Health Plan 2003-2008, the Manual of Health Care Delivery to Immigrants, simultaneous teletranslation systems, etc., which facilitate the same health care conditions that are available to the autochthonous population.
