Abstract

Nursing is a profession in which we have to deal with near death situations or real death on a daily basis. The direct contact with dying patients and their families requires specific training for the professional group of nurses in these hard to face issues. The nurse, apart from having skills to control the physical symptoms, must also be capable of offering integral care to those people who are near the end of their lives. To do this, the nurse must have special social and communication skills that enable her to get close to the patient and to accompany at all moments this type of patients and their families who will in due course have to face the grieving process.
