Abstract
In a rapidly approaching new Europe, nurses will have to be able to provide effective answers to the challenges prompted by a setting that is in constant change and will have to respond efficiently and competently to the demands imposed by the citizens and the challenges imposed by the nursing profession. If the objective of healthcare institutions is to provide a quality service, it is necessary for the parameters that evaluate this quality to include both the satisfaction of the citizens and the healthcare administration, as well as the level of satisfaction of the involved professionals.
In this sense, personalisation must be active to achieve a shared vision of the role of the nursing professional, the mastering of competences proper of the profession, and an advanced practice of quality nursing, that ensue the excellence in interventions offered to the citizens with regard to the promotion of health, its prevention, cure, replacement, accompaniment and quality of live. The identity of the nurse and the recognition of such by the citizens will only be possible if a high level of professionalism is achieved in the different scopes of the nursing intervention. It is thus essential to consolidate the development of competences in nursing and to analyse in more detail each individual role.
