Title:
Nursing education intervention: Intranet as a means for counselling in health-related issues
Abstract:
The nursing professional in special education schools treats children and adolescents who suffer from a cognitive disability, associated mainly to other deficiencies (physical, sensorial, and so forth) and/or chronic syndromes/diseases.
This work depicts the design of an educational space on Intranet of a special needs education centre entitled “Pathologies and/or syndromes: description and attention”. The aim of this space was to serve as a meeting point to provide counselling, information and training in health issues to the different non-sanitary professionals such as teachers, teaching assistants, logopedists, etc. working in the centres.
This educational tool provides a first approximation of the physical and psychological characteristics of certain syndromes that students of both genders present with and provides guidance on the special care that the child/adolescent will need inside the classroom and which are related to the health problems they have.
Appropriate information and counselling enhances the care delivered to the child and helps prevent problematic situations, decreases the degree of anxiety of the teaching staff when faced with possible daily emergencies in the classroom (epileptic crisis, respiratory problems or disruptive behaviours) and their most effective resolution.
