    Abstract

Cardiogenic shock is the most severe clinical manifestation of heart disease associated with acute myocardial infarction. Currently, the Impella CP® is a short-term percutaneous mechanical ventricular assist device that is implanted in the left ventricle during high-risk angioplasty. One of the less frequent but no less complex causes of cardiogenic shock is spontaneous coronary artery dissection that mainly affects young women with few cardiovascular risk factors. The aim on this work is to establish a nursing care plan for a 42-year-old patient undergoing emergent catheterization for acute coronary syndrome and hmodynamic inestability requiring Impella CP® ventricular support.

An assessment of needs was carried out, to the Virginia Henderson model, and the most relevant nursing diagnoses were described using the NANDA-NIC-NOC taxonomy, such as acute pain, anxiety, decreased cardiac output, risk of peripheral neurovascular dysfunction, risk of infection, and a potential complication was detected: risk of bleeding. Identifying the most relevant outcomes (NOC) and interventions (NIC).

After analyzing the case, it can be said that knowledge of the technique and anticipation of real or potential problems helped resolve the patient‘s critical situation, ensuring safe nursing care, as well as providing emotional support throughout the procedure.
