Abstract

The need to care in Nursing has always been a universal one and the element of care is the essence of our scientific discipline. The responsibility of the nursing personnel is to act according to the ethics commanded by the profession in order to provide quality healthcare not only to the individual but also to his or her family and the community. Given the relevance of these aspects, a review of the bibliography was conducted, which led to the argumentation of the ethical principles found to be implicit in the principles that govern the role of the nurse in the art of caring. Some affirmations defended by theoretics of modern nursing are also the subject of discussion in the article. To care for a human being implies ethical responsibility, but it also requires a nurse that is sensitive and compromised with the care provided. Dignity must hen be respected, together with the autonomy and intimacy of the patient who needs to be helped in the taking of decisions by always providing the information requested in an accurate, prudent and sensitive way and by being honourable at all times. The nurse must be convinced that this theoretical knowledge is needed to scientifically sustain his or her nursing performance.
