Abstract

This paper examines the prevalence of smoking in nursing students at the “La Fe” School of Nursing, in Valencia, during the 2004-2005 academic year.
Of 184 enrolled students, 75 were given the survey. The questionnaire was elaborated solely by the authors of this study.
It should be pointed out that nursing studies do not appear to influence significantly the use of tobacco on the part of the students, as the total number smokers account for 32% in the first year, 20% in the second year and 40% in the 3rd year.
Data such as age and gender of the students were not taken into account, as the population of males was small and the results were not significant: age was not considered a relevant factor either as we were of the opinion that it does not have an impact on the study.
