Abstract

Social changes and new demands of the healthcare system compel us to take a new look at the need of enhancing new models of care, based on the concept of Health. Such models focus not only on nursing but also on the client as a co-participating user with decision power abilities and self management regarding issues that have to do with their wellbeing.
This new perspective requires a new working methodology on the part of the healthcare team in which nursing, through the performance of their duties, can and must work in a coordinated and interdisciplinary fashion by providing emotional competences and conceptions that are inborn to the traditional concept of nursing, apart from providing those roles provided by their training in the field of prevention, health promotion and education.
The new nursing concept is defined towards a way of caring that embraces transcultural care focused on the needs of each individual, respecting individual believes and values and their social setting.
