Abstract

Nursing students are very concerned about the latest cases reported in the media which reflect an increase in classroom violence among school aged children. This increase has encouraged us to elaborate an investigation study with which identify and treat the causes for such increase. To this end, we have taken several different hypotheses as the start point: the lack of authority of parents has favored this increase in violence, coupled with a decrease in social values and the negative influence exerted by the media. To verify our hypothesis we have conducted a study that included 150 surveys performed on different individuals in the capital of Valencia, Aielo de Malferit, Quatretonda, Oliva, Torrent and Montixelvo. The surveys were carried out over a period of two weeks.
Once the study was completed, we checked that our hypotheses were concurrent with the data obtained, given that the majority of the interviewees are of the opinion that the responsible factors for such increase in violence are a lack of parental authority, decreased social values, and the influence of the media.
