Abstract

A case series study on unreported abuse in the Military Unit of Chaguada, in the province of Camacho, La Paz, Bolivia, was conducted to gain further insight into this issue. Stratified randomized sampling was used to select 200 students between April and December of 2007. A questionnaire was administered to these students and results were entered into a database. A high percentage of adolescents had suffered some kind of abuse, mainly physical abuse and neglect. The father, mother and stepmother were identified as the abusers. Abuse to adolescents is related to family structure, family ontogenesis, low educational level, marital status of the parents and housing overcrowding.
