Abstract

The role of nursing professionals in a Critical Care and Emergency Service is fundamental. The role of these professionals is a priority in the triage of patients who come to the ER affected by different conditions. However, many times the rest of hospital staff and patients are not aware of this function. In our case, the delay of hydrocephaly treatment can lead to brain wedging and consequently the patient’s death. For this reason, the Virgen del Rocío Hospital focuses its efforts on daily training through clinical sessions and personal dedication. A high level of training is required to provide hospital assistance in a unit that focuses on critical care and emergencies, as is its own name indicates.
