Abstract

This article is part of the process involving a research study currently under progress on the way immigrants perceive the care given to their children by nursing personnel and healthcare professionals in general.
The immigration phenomenon in Spain has grown significantly over the last years creating new situations in several settings, being the sanitary setting an important one. Cultural differences are felt by the nursing personnel at paediatric units as barriers that prevent the delivery of optima care. Hence, it is necessary to identify the problems that may come up due to these differences and to draw some key conclusions that might help healthcare personnel and immigrants make the hospital stay as pleasant as possible by adjusting healthcare services to meet these new needs.
