Throughout history, in several different situations and settings, nursing has been influenced by the theoretical approaches of disciplines related with the processes of management and administration, which have drawn up different forms of design and participation in the care of people.
Management practice has been configured from decision centralization and emphasis on efficiency to situational strategies, based on the pursuit of quality and excellence in the care of people and their health experiences.
By covering the main administrative theories, their contributions and consequences in nursing, we aim to stimulate reflection on the daily practice of nursing management.
