Abstract

A prospective bibliographic review was carried out using the medical records of a patient who had been diagnosed with a decubitus ulcer in an extrahospital setting. It was discovered that nine months earlier the patient had been hospitalised due to a fall from a tree that had caused paraplegia as a result of a spinal lesion. The lesion had caused loss of muscle strength which had made the patient loose his ability to look after himself with limitation of movement and activity and long periods of time in bed. Throughout this intervention, the patient showed a good state of mind and was optimistic, communicative and cheerful. Proper medical treatment was applied and compliance with the established nursing care observed during his stay at this hospital centre.
