Abstract

Hip fracture is one of the most common pathologies affecting the elderly with a major impact on their quality of life and high healthcare costs. The care of geriatric patients with this condition is difficult because of medical and surgical complications associated with previous functional limitations.
Objective:
to unify criteria of performance in nursing care to elderly patients with hip fracture.
Methodology: development of a standardized care plan by reviewing the medical records of 50 patients admitted to the mid-stay unit of Hospital Virgen del Valle in Toledo, the experience of professionals in the unit and revision of literature on care plans. The nursing diagnosis taxonomy NANDA (North American Nursing Diagnosis Association) and classification criteria and objectives of the NIC (Nursing Interventions Classification) and NOC (Nursing Outcomes Classification) were chosen.
Results: development of a plan of care. One can not forget that it is a standardized plan which must be tailored to each patient and primary caregiver for its proper application.

Conclusions: the use of a standardized care plan in geriatric patients with hip fracture increases security of actions in the nursing team and the quality of care provided to the patient.
