Abstract

In the Hospital de la Resurrection in Valladolid during the Spanish Civil War, nurses were responsible for "everything" in order to ensure that their patients were as comfortable as possible.
It was a time of poverty, but the hospital survived on donations, and thanks to this the patients did not suffered very bad conditions.
The nurses were engaged in making clothes and bed linen for patients, they cooked just enough to not waste anything and save as much as possible and the food was also consistent with the needs of patients and was balanced with all food types. They also prepared and administered medicines.
The hospital was clean and in a good hygienic condition. Many of the diseases that were fatal in those days, nowadays are curable diseases.
