Abstract

Throughout history there have been different thoughts and ideas about death that have shifted from being normal and an accepted part of everyday life to be considered a taboo.
This paper aims to confirm the hypothesis that, due to cultural conceptions about death, previous generations saw at an early age a corpse, but this fact alone did not influence the inherent fear of death that individuals report feeling.
After data collection and analysis of a survey of 252 persons form both sexes the hypothesis was confirmed with two exceptions: in the age range of 25-44 years there is a group of men (18/28) which they do nor fear death and in the age range of 15-24 years there is group of women (30/53) who claim to have seen a dead body at a very early age (13,7 years), compared with the other groups.
From all the results obtained in this research it is concluded that, depending on the age, the values that surround the concept of death and its meaning are conceived differently, so it is evident that culture has a great influence on the conception of death.
