Abstract

The aim of this paper is to explore the impact of information prior to operation in the levels of preoperative anxiety of patients and at the same time, to know whether there are differences by age and sex of patients. Thus, the study was conducted on a sample comprised of a total of 60 patients, half of whom belong to an experimental group and half to a control group. The data, obtained by one factor ANOVA and Pearson’s correlation analysis, reflect, firstly, that prior information reduces anxiety levels, and secondly, that men and women have similar perceptions of anxiety when offered information prior to operation and thirdly, that age is a determining factor in the patient profile.
