Abstract

The aim of this study is to identify the profile of the primary caregiver of older adults with chronic degenerative disease. We used a cross-sectional descriptive design performed in the General Hospital in the State of Durango. The study sample consisted of 39 primary caregivers. The results found that the primary caregiver profile was characterized by the predominance of women 84,6% of which 56,4% came from rural areas, 79,5% were employed every day in the care, 46,2% felt physically exhausted, 30,8% of the total caregivers suffered from some illness, it is worth noting that 43.6% were giving care as an obligation.
