Abstract

Of all the existing oral anticoagulants in the world market, Acenocumarol (Sintrom®) is the most used in our country. It decreases the clotting ability of blood, phasing out the effect of vitamin K. Its main therapeutic indication is the treatment and prophylaxis of thromboembolic diseases and its biggest complication is bleeding.
Given that this drug in linked with serious heart conditions above mentioned and because the treatment is defined as chronic from the beginning, the patient usually responds negatively to it, as well as with fear and anxiety that are underlying due to the total lack of knowledge of the patient.
That is why their use and handling requires some previous knowledge of its administration, both for the nurse in charge of monitoring and the patient, which is the primary objective of this article.
