Abstract

Objective: To determine the reactions and the rituals used by men after the death of a loved one.
Material and methods: 32 men answered a questionnaire in person.
Results: Men make use of rituals such as the wake, the funeral mass, burial or mourning. They have little tendency to express emotions in public. The wife is the main source of support in overcoming grief.
Conclusions: The most common reaction among men at the death of a loved one is sadness, the sorrow for the loss. The rituals used are those of society (wake, funeral mass, burial and mourning), plus personal ones, such as support of the wife.
