Abstract
The most common dental problems usually are decay and periodontal diseases. Clinical manifestations of decay in many cases are asymptomatic, but they may also cause local pain when exposed to hot and cold beverages, abscesses causing more severe may appear, as well as occasionally facial edema. They are detected by clinical examination and X-ray. As for the periapical dental abscess, the clinical manifestations are sharp and dull continuous pain accompanied by surrounding cellulitis, edema of underlying facial structures and mobility of the affected tooth, difficulty opening the mouth due to damages to the temporomandibular joint, pain with chewing, fever and malaise, which should be treated with antibiotic and anti-inflammatory and when reaction subsides the tooth must be extracted or the affected the root canal treated (endodontics). The periodontal diseases include gingivitis, stones, bleeding and pus behind the gingival margin.
To prevent these diseases, we must turn to a professional cleaning with ultrasound, create healthy hygiene habits, give oral hygiene instructions, and in case of periodontitis, scaling and root planing, all with the goal of eliminating bacteria and prevent re-accumulation, reinforced with regular visits to the dentist (with a frequency of 6 months to 1 year).
