Abstract

Objective: To analyze the adhesion of the nursing staff in the Cardiac Surgery Unit of a hospital in the Agència Valenciana de Salut to the hospital wound care protocol. The adherence analysis studies the reasons for the results obtained.
Material and methods: Cross-sectional study. The adherence to the wound healing protocol was analyzed through 34 items. This involved 13 observations, 10 of professionals and 3 of students.
Results: The results show that the average adherence to the wound healing protocol in all observations in the hospital was 74.92% of studied items, with a standard deviation of 6.21% and a coefficient of variation of 8.29%.
Conclusions: The adherence of nurses is high; data should be adjusted according to the type of wound. Monitoring can be improved in some points and conscious review of the daily practice is required to include some points omitted, such as the stimulation of the perilesional area. It would be interesting to start reflecting on the role of family in the practice of wound healing.
