Abstract
The World Health Organization considers obesity as "the epidemic of the 21st century". In Spain, pediatricians are very concerned about the significant increase in childhood obesity, which now affects 16% of children under 14 years. This increase in incidence of childhood obesity is now a health problem with serious consequences in the medium and long term.
The consequences from the point of view of health are obvious. An obese child has a good chance of being an obese adult. In addition, it significantly increases the risk of developing associated diseases, psychological problems and lack of adaption, and a reduced life expectancy. As well as, we must not forget the major economic cost that obesity has.
Preventing obesity is a public health priority strategy that should begin in childhood and requires the active participation of primary care professionals, which are the ones with a more direct and continuous contact with children and their families.
Given the scale of the problem, the proposal is to conduct an educational intervention from the consultation room of a pediatric nurse to change the erroneous eating patterns that are influencing the emergence and development of a problem of obesity.
