Abstract

This historical work is to show the relationship that has existed between Nursing and Music. We have studied the influence tuberculosis had in the Nineteenth Century’s art and the interest of the romantic composers on the beauty of the disease. In the operas La Bohème and La Traviata a lack of care for these patients is observed. If the artworks are synchronized and related to current events we could see what is new or archaic regarding our time. Opera and music history, therefore, can be used as instruments of social analysis and reflection. From this perspective, it is interesting to take the contents of certain opera from the romantic era to reflect, understand and interpret what was projected onto the world of health and illness in the past.
