Abstract

Pharmacovigilance and all aspects involved in it, are a measure of patient safety and a priority in health care, although it is anincreasingly complex activity that involves risks and shows a high morbidity and mortality.

The document patient safety strategy 2010-2012 sets out strategic security four lines:

To promote and disseminate the culture of safety.
To know and learn from our reality.
To optimize our organization.
To improve safety in patient care.
Pharmacovigilance is a responsibility of health professionals and especially nurses, as we are the professionals who spend more time with patients, are in charge of their care and also the same patients see as responsible for caring for them. Reporting medication errors and any suspected adverse reactions to medications that we give is the foundation to care for our patients in a safe and quality manner.
To prevent medication errors by nurses, we must rely on three key pillars:
Training.
Organization, through developing protocols and guidelines.
Facilities.
