Abstract

The diabetic foot syndrome is a major cause of morbidity and disability in patients with diabetes mellitus. Rapid recognition and management of risk factors prevent ulcers, amputations and other complications. The current treatment approach involves a multidisciplinary and individualized care. Diabetic neuropathy has a direct relationship on the onset of ulcerative lesions in the diabetic foot as well as the loss of sensitivity, increased plantar pressures and, it is aided by limited joint mobility and thickening of the support zones, which these patients suffering from repetitive trauma that start the process are exposed.
Furthermore, diabetic patients are more susceptible to infection and treatment is further complicated by decreased tissue perfusion, and the alteration of the immune response associated with this condition. For these reasons, diabetic foot ulcers become longstanding lesions and poor prognosis.
With this work we wanted to study the competence of treatment of grade 2 ulcers by the combined use of biocides and orthopedic treatment. The results indicate that combination therapy with continuous monitoring and health education are highly beneficial to the patient is reducing the healing time of wounds and infection resolution.
