Abstract

The concept of disease prevention is much wider than just avoiding the disease. Rather, it is a multiple-level action involving health promotion, disease prevention (primary prevention), early detection, and prompt disease therapy, disability limiting (secondary prevention), and rehabilitation (tertiary prevention).
All such levels in prevention are approached in the present work, as a crucial method to avoid diabetic foot occurrence and its complications. Risk factors are highlighted and the need for both patient and healthcare team education is emphasized as a way to solve the problem from a multidisciplinary view.
