Abstract

According to several studies, the main source of error when managing laboratory processes involves pre-analytical steps, and is mainly related to human factor. The present work is aimed at highlighting the significant role of nurses to reduce such errors, particularly in a community nursing setting.
Increased life span has led to a high number of patients with chronic diseases. Blood tests in primary care have a major role in the management and follow-up of such patients.
Applying a number of basic measures when performing a usual routine technique, such as venous blood sampling, allows us to reduce many errors and inconveniences adversely affecting our patients.
