Abstract

In recent years, home-visiting care has substantially increased due to chronic diseases and new technologies. Therefore, a more specialized nursing care is needed. Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy (PEG) tube insertion is a straightforward, safe and easy to care procedure, with a low cost and highly effective in patients requiring a long-term enteral nutrition because of swallowing difficulties. This is the procedure of choice, instead of a nasogastric tube and parenteral nutrition, and results in an intact gastrointestinal tract and a long life expectancy.
This is the reason why the present work was done, so as to spread the knowledge on PEG exchange procedure by means of some simple steps.
