Abstract

Human milk is the food of choice for newborns, but sometimes access to breast feeding in unavailable. Before using formulas, pediatric societies and scientists recommend human milk donated by other mothers. In recent years, human milk banks have been developed and integrated in several health systems to meet this need. Being a very recent development in Spain, available information shows a substantial variation in different Spanish Autonomous Communities. Human milk donation procedures are very simple and can be summarized in a few items. Protocol for human milk donation at the Aragon's Blood and Tissue Bank is reported.
