Abstract

Our primary aim was to screen for constipated pregnant women in midwife office and to modify their daily life activities so that bowel habit could be improved.

Data sheets-questionnaires will be used for data collection and weight or blood pressure recording. A group of ten women will be recruited at midwife office; no age restrictions will be applied. A guidance talk will be given to describe our intervention and a group session method (such as brainstorming) will be used to assess their understanding of constipation. At the second midwife visit some diet recommendations, as well as advices on physical activity, hygiene and life style, will be given.

Results were compared at later visits. At the last visit, constipation problems were found to be solved with our proposed action plan in 90% of participants, with a woman additionally requiring natural remedies, herbal teas and some laxatives (stool softeners).
