Abstract

Triage is a sorting method allowing an appropriate management of clinical risk to be implemented, so that general health care is appropriately applied. Obstetric care has a number of special characteristics having resulted in an increased health care demand in emergency services. On the other hand, only a few local experiences have implemented structured procedures to sort patients for emergency obstetric care.

A literature search and review has been conducted and hospital experience on obstetric triage implementing is reported. Appropriate health care workers for triage application and procedures potentially useful to meet pregnant women needs in emergency settings are also described.
