Abstract

In a way, street names reflect the evolution of places they belong to. Undoubtedly, such names are a significant integral part of the memories and cultural history of a nation.

It is well known that street names are based on very different origins, including memorable historical facts, site demarcations, guilds, famous celebrities, significant positions, authoritative professionals, religious evocations, and others, although it can also be stated that none of such reminiscences is unrelated to social and cultural movements and, particularly, to prevailing politicians.

The authors thought that women helping other women in labor have been omnipresent throughout the history of women care, making them distinguished and renowned people due to their social contribution. Thus, in spite of a male-centered society making them more invisible, the authors have looked for midwives’ footprints on the Spanish street guide.
