Abstract

Prenatal screening for cromosomal abnormalities is one of the main purposes for prenatal diagnosis.
A number of screening strategies for such innate defects in general population are available, and the combined screening in the first trimester has been until now the most useful tool for that purpose.
Ultrasound markers for cromosomal abnormalities are based on an ultrasound evaluation of fetal features allowing a better individual risk assessment for cromosomal diseases. Among them, fetal back of the neck translucence in first trimester has the highest predictive power. Other ultrasound markers in first and second trimester can also be included in ultrasound imaging assessment to improve sensitivity.
