Abstract
Purpose: nausea and vomiting occur in 75-80% of pregnant women, particularly in first trimester; most severe cases are known as hyperemesis gravidarum or pernicious vomiting of pregnancy.
A patient with hyperemesis gravidarum was diagnosed and received drug therapy and other non-pharmacological measures needed to solve the problem; the case is reported.
Material and methods: a pregnant woman diagnosed with hyperemesis gravidarum has multiple hospital admissions. Follow-up by a multidisciplinary team and therapeutic approach are reported, and multiple factors related to this disorders are described.
Results: a normal birth resulted, with no maternal complications.
Conclusions: a correct diagnosis and a successful control of symptoms and signs allowed a favorable course and prevented potential complications resulting from hyperemesis gravidarum.
