Abstract
Methods: cross-sectional descriptive study. The study population consisted of patients registered in the district who presented ulcers in the study period. Data were collected from the patient´s clinical record, direct observation by nursing personnel and by the patient and/or family. An exploratory and descriptive study of the data was performed using SPSS 15.0 software.
Results: 202 patients were included in the study totaling 290 ulcers. Ulcer prevalence was 10,78% at the Lluis Alcanyis hospital, 8,57% at the Ontinyent hospital and 0,6% in Primary Care. 49,3% were pressure ulcers, followed by 34,1% of vascular ulcers and 16,6% of diabetic ulcers. The most frequently used wound dressings were those made of foam, followed by silver, calcium alginate and hydrocolloid dressings. Debridement was performed in 52,8% of the lesions.
Conclusions: even though the prevalence of ulcers in our district is within the parameters observed at national level, we have recorded a high number of ulcers considered as “avoidable”. This is why from this Commission we must continue working to decrease those risks factors that are associated with ulcers.
