Abstract

The rapid evolution of new Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and their capacity to penetrate all human activities are causing us to experience a true techno-social revolution.
In the social and healthcare field, and given the close existing relationship between health, the individual, and society, the Internet and its applications is becoming an indispensable tool in nursing care. The World Health Organization (WHO) itself recognizes that “every day, human health is improving everywhere in the world as a result of the emergence of information and communication technologies”.
With the development of eHealth (application of ICT in the scope of health) in our setting, nurses are witnessing important innovations in health systems and society in general. More often than not these nursing professionals are not aware of the challenges ahead of them and the key role that they play in the development of nursing.
This work presents a critical reflection on the role of Nursing in the Network Society based on the analysis of the real current situation in Spain and identifies the main challenges that the Red Society poses to us: training, innovation and institutional recognition and research in care innovation.
