Abstract
49-year-old woman, goes to the nursing room because she has pain and stiffness in her legs. A medical examination could find no evidence of physical pathology. But, after analyzing the various nursing diagnoses, an altered quantity and quality of sleep was observed and this pattern was affected by emotional stress after a relationship breakdown. She was diagnosed with insomnia related to separation from a partner. Both diagnoses are related, since pain can lead to inadequate rest and vice versa, the pain can be aggravated by lack of sleep.
