Abstract
Introduction: It is important to know existing evidence on the efficacy of health promotion programs, so that the efficacy of future programs can be improved. This has led us to the following questions: Which is the existing evidence, at an international level, on health promotion programs? Are health promotion programs useful?
Purpose: To perform a literature review and update on the existing evidence on health promotion programs implemented in various life stages in humans.
Methods: A literature search, review, and evaluation were carried out through systematic reviews that were selected using established criteria.
Results: Among 121 initially selected papers, six systematic reviews were found. 110 were excluded because they did not meet established criteria and five because of a low level at critical CASPe assessment.
Conclusions: Our review identified substantial existing scientific evidence on health promotion programs, although only a few systematic reviews have been able to show that they are effective.
