Abstract

Purpose: To create and implement a protocol on the contents, review, and maintenance of code blue cart in a rural health center.
Methods: A literature search and review was carried out based on original papers and review articles published in the last ten years.
Results: Required drugs and materials were defined; a list of active ingredients and corresponding brand names was prepared; an incident reporting form was prepared; code cart condition was described; ways for review and replenish products in the cart were defined; a protocol for equipment check and verification was developed, and a recording system to review drug expiration dates was prepared.
Conclusions: Importantly, healthcare professionals should be involved in code blue cart content definition, and should be engaged in cart review and maintenance, in order to ensure an effective and high-quality healthcare is provided.
