Abstract

Measuring tools to assess stigmatization perception by people with intellectual disability
Pupose: A number of different tools are currently available to assess stigmatization in people with intellectual disability (ID), and there is a need to select the most useful one of them as a measure. We aimed to carry out a literature review on scales that can be suitable for the assessment of stigmatization in people with ID.
Methods: A literature search was performed for measuring tools aimed at assessing stigmatization as perceived by individuals with ID. The following databases were searched: Medline, PsychInfo y CINAHL.
Results: Relevant data on the subject were found in databases in 470 articles; and 42 full-text papers were selected and retrieved. Fourteen measuring tools for perceived stigmatization were identified in such papers.
Discussion: A review of available scales and the assessment of their psychometric attributes is a useful tool to help researchers selecting a suitable measure for perceived stigmatization in individuals with ID.
