Abstract

In the recent era of austerity, rational thinking has become an absolute need. Thus, a very social discipline such as nursing intends educating students on such concepts as nursing philosophy, fundamentals of nursing, and critical thinking. As an illustrative case, the cardioprotected space from differing perspectives was considered: from an apparent lack of rationale for implementing it, because it is not needed in this population, to its licit behavior of the institution as a publicity-oriented item, or even as a mean for promoting the autonomous ideological prospects for the institution. By means of a very heterogeneous literature reading, an interview with a key informant, and personal inference, emergent concepts on this rationale, such as institutional image, university autonomy, social empowerment, and others are analyzed regarding their relationship with semi-automated external defibrillators, health capitalization, and critical thinking.
Finally, some thoughts are presented as conclusions, such as the origin of health conceptualization as a product; the loss of knowledge as an institutional aim under the prevailing financial interest in some scientific societies, and the breakdown, through semi-automated external defibrillators, of the barrier based on competences that have been historically associated to healthcare system.
