Contact email: j.juanlopez@hotmail.com Abstract Objective: to determine the quality of life in patients with Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) at a Primary Care Unit in Tabasco, Mexico.Method: a quantitative, descriptive and correlation study. The SF-36 Health Survey was applied to a sample of 50 patients with T2DM who attended for metabolic follow-up and were selected through convenience sampling. Data were processed through SPSS v24 using descriptive statistics, and the Chi-Squared Test was used.Results: 62% of the sample were female and 38% were male; 54% were over 56 years old, and 66% were married; 64% presented a good quality of life. The social function was the best scored dimension (M= 80.75, SD= 12.92), and the overall quality of life reported a mean of 65.77 (SD= 12.13). No dependence was found between quality of life and the age, gender and marital status variables (p> 0.05).Conclusions: in general, T2DM patients had a good quality of life, but it is necessary to create awareness about the responsibility of care when faced with the potential complications specific to the disease.
