Abstract

Objective:patients and caregivers who have lived through the experience of suffering coronavirus require continuity of care at home to provide information about the protection measures to prevent complications and stop the chain of spread. The objective is to evaluate the efficacy of the E-continuity of Care in Patients with COVID-19 and their Caregivers educational program

Methodology: a quasi-experimental design through snowball sampling, in 23 patients of both genders diagnosed with COVID-19 and their main caregivers, who were in home lockdown. The intervention was implemented in three stages: diagnostic, applying the instrument of knowledge, practices and attitudes towards COVID-19, and the clinical evaluation questionnaire at discharge by telephone; planning and implementation; and evaluation, consisting of five 30-minute sessions dispensed during a month through digital platforms. There was descriptive data analysis; Student’s T was applied to compare test and re-test. There were ethical considerations for a low-risk study.

Results: of the sample, 52.2% were female and 47.9% male; their mean age was 34.4 years, 8,7% suffered a chronic disease, 52.2% had doubts about the disease, and 82.6% wished to increase their knowledge for care at home. In the pre-test, 56.5% had a regular level of knowledge, while 91.3% obtained a good level of knowledge at the re-test, with a statistically significant effect (p= .005).

Conclusion: the r-continuity of care at home is an effective strategy for the management of home care.
