Abstract

Objective: to evaluate the application of the nursing intervention program in Mexiquense adolescents at their first year of high school in the academic year 2020-2021, in order to promote the prevention of sexual risk behaviours.

Method: a qualitative quasi-experimental pre-test and post-test study with educational intervention in 73 students between 15 and 17 years old. Sociodemographic characteristics and sexual risk behaviours were determined through the Lifestyles questionnaire, applied before and two months after the program was implemented. Data analysis was conducted with IBM SPSS 25; frequencies, percentages and correlations were determined through the Wilcoxon signed-rank test, and p< 0.05 values were considered statistically significant differences.

Results: the predominant age was 15 years, both in the female and male genders, with 46.5% and 39.7% respectively; 74% were living with their nuclear family and their main occupation was being students. Before the intervention, only 32.9% considered engaging in sexual activity without protection or with strangers and having many sexual partners as sexual risk behaviours; after the application of the program there was a 94.4% increase in their consideration (p 0.002).

Conclusions: the educational interventions applied by Nursing professionals will cause a significant impact on adolescents; when conveniently conducted, sexual behaviours that will generate health risks can be prevented.
