Abstract

Objective: to present the case of a 78-year-old male who attended the Nursing consulting room for the cure of two grafts with poor clinical evolution. To conduct complete nursing assessment in order to detect any areas for improvement. To intervene and modify critical aspects in order to achieve the maximum functionality possible in his daily life activities. To evaluate the changes made in order to confirm that the objectives desired have been achieved.

Method: in this case, the approach used was the nursing model of Virginia Henderson’s basic needs, and the NANDA (North American Nursing Diagnosis Association), NIC (Nursing Interventions Classification) and NOC (Nursing Outcomes Classification) taxonomies were used throughout the process.

Results: some areas for improvement were detected, such as pain perception, self-care management and skin integrity (adapting cures to his specific case). After evaluating the intervention, an improvement was observed in the areas involved, with the subsequent increase in the quality of life of the patient.

Conclusions: the nursing profession is essential for the management of patients with grafts, and they are not only indispensable for the pattern of cures and its modification, but also for the holistic view of the patient, detecting potential areas for improvement in his basic needs.
